| Obverse [0:23] 11–2323 | Tukultī-Ninurta (I), strong king, king of all people, prince, viceregent of Aššur, the foremost purification priest, ruler of rulers, the able favourite of Enlil, faithful dhepherd, king (whose) decree cannot be rivalled, designate of Anu, the one who understands, the wise one, who reaches the utmost boundaries of wisdom, the beloved of Niššiku, the pure one, worthy representative of kingship (lit. scepter and crown), designate of Sîn, root of lordliness, attentive prince, creature of the Sungod, his offspring, king of kings, fierce anger, king of Adad’s choice, the one who shakes resistance, understanding of Ninurta, courageous, destructive weapon of the gods, a deluge of battle, a fierce storm, the incontestable attack, select of the goddess Ištar, provider of the gods of heaven (and) underworld, loved one of the Igigi gods, strong king, king of Assyria and king of Karduniaš (Babylonia), king of Sumer and Akkad, king of Sippar and Babylon, king of Tilmun and Meluḫḫa, king of the Upper and Lower Seas, king of the extensive mountains and plains, king of the lands of the Šubaru (and) Qutu and king of all the lands Nairi, king obedient to his gods, receiver in Aššur of valuable booty from the four quarters; son of Shalmaneser (I), king of the universe, king of Assyria; son of Adad-nārārī (I) (who was) also king of the universe (and) king of Assyria: |
| Obverse [23:36] 2424–3636 | At the beginning of my sovereignty (lit. at the beginning of the throne of my sovereignty) I uprooted 28,800 Hittite people from Syria (lit. “Beyond the Euphrates”) and led (them) into my land. I conquered the lands of the Qutu, Uqumanu, the lands Elḫunia and Šarnida, the land Meḫru. I brought about in battle the defeat of the extensive army of the Papḫu. I became lord of the lands Katmuḫu, Alzu, Madanu, Niḫanu, Alaia, Tepurzu, Purulumzu, and the entire land of the extensive Šubaru. I cut straight as a string through the rocky mountains of the lands Nairi. I subdued at my feet forty kings and their troops, and imposed (upon them) corvée. |
| Obverse [36:45] 3737–4545 | At that time I approached Kaštiliašu, king of Karduniaš (Babylonia), to do battle. I brought about the defeat of his army. In the midst of that battle I captured Kaštiliašu, king of the Kassites, (and) bound I brought him as a captive into the presence of the god Aššur, my lord. (Thus) I became lord of Sumer and Akkad in its entirety (and) stood over them (its inhabitants) with joy and excellence. |
| Obverse [45:66] 4646–6666 | At that time the god Aššur, my lord, requested of me a cult center on the bank opposite my city, the desired object of the gods, and he commanded me to build his sanctuary. At the command of the god Aššur, the god who loves me, I built before my city, Aššur, a city for (the god) Aššur on the opposite bank, beside the Tigris, in uncultivated plains (and) meadows where there was neither house nor dwelling, where no ruin hills or rubble had accumulated, and no bricks had been laid. I called it Kār-Tukultī-Ninurta. I surrounded it with two walls, I heaped up heaps of earth in front of the wall and I dug a big moat following the circumference of the wall. In my city Kār-Tukultī-Ninurta which I love I constructed magnificent daises to serve as armchairs for the great gods and goddesses, my lords. I cut straight as a string through rocky terrain massive and strong mountains; I cut a wide path for two watercourses of life which provides abundance for my city Kār-Tukultī-Ninurta. I transformed its plains into irrigated (fields). I arranged for regular offerings to Aššur and the great gods, my lords, in perpetuity from the fish (lit. “produce”) of the water of that canal. |
| Obverse [66:69] 6767–6969 | At that time I constructed the wall of my city Kār-Tukultī-Ninurta and strengthened it. I completed it from top to bottom and deposited my monumental inscription. |
| Obverse [69:75] 7070–7575 | May a later prince, when this wall becomes dilapidated and reaches old age, restore its weakened parts, may he anoint with oil my monumental inscriptions and pour an offering for me (over them) and restore them to their place. (Then) the gods Aššur, Enlil, and Šamaš will listen to his prayers. He who does not restore this wall and does not … my monumental inscriptions … may (these gods) destroy his name and his seed from the land. |
