About this reader
A browser for new English readings of cuneiform works that have ATF transliterations but little or no open English on CDLI — literary, royal, scientific, omen, and letter corpora first.
- Explore — filter ranked candidates from the local CDLI dump
- Epic hunt — large literary / phrase-scored shortlist (Gilgamesh II, hymns, …)
- Remedies — plant recipes and therapeutic tablets (head, teeth, eyes, belly…)
- Omens — physiognomy, birth, skin spots, liver extispicy, Mul.Apin / astral
- Math — reciprocal (igi), metrology, multiplication (a-rá) school tables
- Map & time — findspots and a period scrubber
- Reader — English · ATF · period-style cuneiform side by side
Direct links: Gilgamesh II · Head fever remedies · Mole physiognomy · Liver extispicy · Reciprocal table · Metrology
Cuneiform is drawn in a period-matched face, following the eBL converter (Neo-Assyrian, Neo-Babylonian, Old Babylonian cursive / literary / monumental, Hittite; Noto otherwise); the reader's “Cuneiform face” menu overrides it for your session (font credits). Offline ATF→Unicode uses a vendored eBL reading map; optional live conversion hits the eBL signs API.
Translation model integration (local T5 from
atf-translate-test, or in-browser Hugging Face later) is the next layer —
the English column is ready for line-aligned output.
Credits & data. The catalogue and texts come from CDLI, ORACC, eBL, TLHdig and Achemenet; the tablets themselves from museums around the world. Fonts, map data, software and licences are on the credits & thanks page.
CDLI “no translation” means not recorded in CDLI — some works are published in RINAP, ETCSL, ORACC, etc. The catalog flags likely known projects.
